Melinda Elizabeth Brinkley, 56, of 4763 Carolina Road, died Monday, March 10, 2025, in her home where she was lovingly cared for by her family.
Melinda was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on October 10, 1968, and was the daughter of Mary Rountree Brinkley of the home and the late Mack Fletcher Brinkley. She attended Special Education classes at Idlewood School, later received her certificate of completion from what was then John F. Kennedy High School in Suffolk, and for many years was employed in packaging with Elevare Sheltered Workshop. Melinda recognized God, knew of His love and grace, and practiced His patience and understanding with others. Her life’s spiritual lessons came from the Sunday School classes and Vacation Bible School at Southside Baptist Church.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her twin sister, Melanie Brinkley-Young (husband, David) of Aydlett, NC; her beloved aunt, Ruthellen VanBlon of Mint Hill, NC; her companion aid of more than 20 years who was like another sister to her, Deborah Osborne; and many cousins and extended family members.
In accordance with the family’s wishes, services will be private.
