Melba Gray Overton

   Melba Loraine Gray Overton, 76, of Harvey Point Road, Hertford, NC, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2021 in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.

   Mrs. Overton was born in Chowan County on September 5, 1944, and was the daughter of the late Elmer Gray and Eula Mae Williams Watson. A homemaker, she also owned and operated Melba's Ceramics for over 20 years. She was a member of Bethlehem Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Winford Overton; her grandson, C.W. "Trey" Overton, III; an infant great-grandson; and by sisters, Fae Jernigan and Mae Rogers.

   Surviving are her two daughters, Diane Kirby of Hertford and Barbara Overton of Angier; two sons, C.W. Overton, Jr. (wife, Vickie) of Belvidere and Jason Overton (wife, Katie) of Hertford; two sisters, Frances Miller of Williamston and Louise McClenney of Merry Hill; five grandchildren, John Conrad Kirby and T.J. Kirby, Josh and Jonathan Cooper, and Trista Sullivan; and seven great-grandchildren, Carlie Bateman, Owen and Ever Overton, John Michael Kirby, Brinn and Hudson Cooper, and Ryan Sullivan; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

   A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Cedarwood Cemetery and will be conducted by her pastor, Minister Chris Shoaff. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, no formal visitation is being held, however friends may visit with the family at the gravesite immediately following the service. Masks are required, and social distancing measures should be followed by those attending.
