Marylin Lowe Austin

   Marylin Lowe Austin, 77, of Hertford, NC, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2024, in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.

   Mrs. Austin was born in Nassau County, NY, and was the daughter of the late Herbert and Henrietta Peterson Lowe. A homemaker, she was a longtime member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church in Mt. Airy, MD, and in more recent years enjoyed membership in Hertford Baptist Church. An accomplished pianist, she used her musical talent in the communities in which she lived. She was also a gifted seamstress and quilter.

   Surviving is her husband of 43 years, Gerald David Austin; a daughter, Julie Lin Bentley (Frank) of Thurmont, MD; a son, Jeffrey T. Stitely (Heather) of Chatham, NJ; two stepsons, David Austin (John Beitner) of Los Angeles, CA and Dr. Gerald Austin, Jr. of San Jose, CA; three brothers, Bert Lowe and Henry Lowe, both of Baltimore, MD, and Harold Lowe of Sandy Spring, MD; and four grandchildren, Jessica and Josh Bentley and Emmet and Eamon Stitely.

   A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 10, at 11:00 a.m. in Hertford Baptist Church and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. Dario Ruvarac. Friends may visit with the family Friday, February 9, from 6 to 7 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hertford Baptist Church, PO Box 34, Hertford, NC 27944 and designated for the Organ Fund.
