Mary Lee Miller Bright

   Mary Lee Miller Bright, 86, of 1389 Hwy 158 East, Sunbury, NC, died Tuesday, November 14, 2023 in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.

   Mrs. Bright was born in Perquimans County and was the daughter of the late Ernest Conroy Miller and Marie Ida Perry Cole. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Vance Bright; her son, Eddie; her grandson, Cliff; and by her brother, Wayne Miller.

   Many will remember Mrs. Bright as the owner and operator of Hairlines Beauty & Barber Supply, or as the doughnut maker in the bakery at Farm Fresh, or as a clerk in Roses Department Store, all in Elizabeth City. However, her life's greatest work was undoubtedly raising two wonderful boys into men. Mrs. Bright enjoyed many things in life, watching stories, her family and especially the grandbabies. Until the last few years, she had always loved cooking and was a great cook. Even though she wasn’t cooking anymore, she loved to eat Mexican. No trip to town was complete without going out for lunch.

   Surviving is her son, Glenn Bright (wife, Heidi) of Sunbury; her daughter-in-law, Teresa S. Bright of Hobbsville; a sister, Marilyn Weaver (husband, Richard) of Nashville, NC; a sister-in-law, Donna Miller of Waynesboro, NC; four grandchildren, Rob Bright (Kelly), Tiffany Long (Mike), Danny Bright (Terah), and Wendy Bunch (Jake); a granddaughter-in-law, Jenny Bright; and six great-grandchildren, Emma, Evie, Zoie, and Mavis Bright, and Oliver and Lucy Long.

   Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, by the Rev. Ron Stuart. A private burial will be next to her husband in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Elizabeth City. Friends are invited to visit with the family in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service or all other times at her residence.
