Mary Jane Crockett Blakemore Bunch, 65, of Hobbsville, NC, passed away Monday, July 11, 2022 in Elizabeth City Health and Rehabilitation.
Mrs. Bunch was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on January 18, 1957, and was the daughter of the late William Stephen Blakemore, Sr., M.D. and Elaine Hooven Blakemore. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Elgin Bunch.
A graduate of both Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio and Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts, she earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Physical Education. While attending college she was named an All American in both Women’s Lacrosse and Field Hockey. A retired Optometrist, she was employed for many years with her brother, Dr. William S. Blakemore, Jr., M.D. She attended Hobbsville Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing.
Surviving is her son, Quinton Bunch (Kayla) of Hobbsville; four sisters, Holly Blakemore of Poplar Branch, Dr. Karin Blakemore, M.D. of Baltimore, Maryland, Stephenie Blakemore of Hawaii, and Dr. Laurel Blakemore, M.D. of Gainesville, Florida; a brother, Dr. William Blakemore, Jr., M.D. of Manteo; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 3:00 p.m. in Hobbsville Baptist Church and will be conducted by the Rev. Tim Dannelly. Friends may visit with the family in the church social hall immediately following the service.
