Mary Louise Owens "Teenie" Dunton, 89, of Hobbsville Road, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2024, in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City. Ms. Dunton was born in Perquimans County on November 29, 1934, and was the daughter of the late William W. and Matie Nixon Owens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Irene Scaff and Dot Clark, brothers, Wilbur, Ben, Pete, Carl, Carlton, and J.B. Owens, and a grandson, Kevin Sawyer. She worked as a matron at Albemarle District Jail for many years. Following her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren.
Surviving is her son, Mike Rucker (wife, Judy); three daughters, Cindy Stallings (husband, Scotty), Shelly Riddick, and Connie Rucker; a sister, Joyce Taylor; 10 grandchildren, Michael, Kimberly, Juliea, Brittany, Tracie, Lori, Adam, Renee, Matthew, and Phillip; 22 great-grandchildren, Will, Emily, Ethen, Cael, Lilah, Trevor, Taylor, Logan, Neil, Lucas, Aria, Aubrey, Aiden, Dylan, Hallie Rae, Cailyn, Derrick, Zoey, Lyra, Jackson, Harley and Kayden; a great-great-grandson, Braylen; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family at Cindy and Scotty's home, 810 Hobbsville Road, Hobbsville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Food Bank of the Albemarle, 109 Tidewater Way, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
