Martin Thaddeus "Bush" Hassell

   Martin Thaddeus "Bush" Hassell, 59, formerly of Hertford, NC, and more recently of Edenton Primetime Retirement Center, passed away there on Saturday, February 25, 2023.

   Mr. Hassell was born in Saba, the Netherlands Antilles, on December 22, 1963, and was the son of Ambrose Leonard Hassell of Columbia, South America, and the late Hilda Patricia Hassell.

   In earlier years, Martin was a tour boat scuba diver before moving to the United States in 1995. Upon his move to Snug Harbor, he worked as a laminator in the boat building industry for many years, and then operated his own lawn and garden maintenance business in the community. Martin had a "green thumb" and loved his flowers and plants, of which he had many. He was a member of Snug Harbor Community Church.

   In addition to his father, surviving is his brother, Elvis Hassell of Hertford; his sister, Jennifer Hutchinson (husband, Kirk) of Homestead, FL; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members including Charlene Cox and her family.

   Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 4, at 3:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by his pastor, the Rev. Don Carter, and his former pastor, the Rev. Stanley Nixon. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home the hour prior to the services on Saturday. Burial will be in Siloam Cemetery in Vineland, NJ.
