Margaret Ann Russell Chambers Trombley, 82, of 382 Hercules Court, Elizabeth City, NC, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2023 in her home where she was being cared for by family.
Mrs. Trombley was born in Portsmouth, VA on February 23, 1941, and was the daughter of the late Harry Nurney and Ida Mae White Russell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Albert Ray Chambers and William Trombley; a sister, Eva Layden; a brother, Harry R. “Buddy” Russell; a granddaughter, Erin Pierce; and a great-granddaughter, Abigale Pierce.
Through the years she had been employed in the meat department with S & R Grocery, as a cafeteria worker with Central Elementary, and with the former Elizabeth City Hosiery Mill. In later years she enjoyed serving as a greeter with Wal-Mart. She was a faithful member of Berea Church of Christ.
Surviving are her two daughters, Brenda C. Everett (Eddie) and Darlene C. May, both of Elizabeth City; her son, Allen Ray Chambers (Lora) of Rison, AR; two sisters, Ivy Phillips (Charles) and Dolores Phillips (Jack), both of Hertford; seven grandchildren, Amber Lee Everett, Stacy Brickhouse, Hunter Chambers, Tiffany Houlroyd, Brittany Harris, Regan Taylor, and Jordan Prescott; seven great-grandchildren, Caleb Armstrong, Aiden Chambers, Ava Brickhouse, Micah Houlroyd, Remi Harris, Logan Prescott, and Emre Prescott; special friend, Marie Watts; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in Berea Church of Christ, and will be conducted by Minister Lee Modlin, and her nephew, Dr. Wallace Phillips. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family either Friday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, or in the social hall of the church immediately following the graveside rites on Saturday, and all other times at the residence.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to caregiver, Sandra Walker, and to the staff of both Moore’s Healthcare and of Albemarle Home Care and Hospice for the compassion provided during their need.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care Charity Fund, in care of Albemarle Home Care and Hospice, 1507 North Road Street, Suite #2, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
