Margaret Townsend Chappell

   Margaret Faye Townsend Chappell, 71, of 811 Great Fork Road, Suffolk, VA, died Tuesday, February 22, 2022 in her home.

   Mrs. Chappell was born in Washington County, NC on May 31, 1950, and was the daughter of the late Melvin Floyd and Eunice Inez Jones Townsend. Retired from the Suffolk office of Verizon where she worked as a customer service representative, she was a faithful member of Middle Swamp Baptist Church in Gates County where she was active in the Women’s Bible Study.

   Surviving is her husband of nearly 24 years, Billy Lee Chappell; a son, Wendell James “Jamie” Widener (wife, Trisha) of Smithfield, VA; a sister, Ann Turner of Franklin, VA; and a brother, Roger Townsend (wife, Sherrie) of Benbrook, TX. Also surviving are Billy’s sons, Steven Craig Chappell of Barco, NC and Eric Lee Chappell (wife, Jess) of Suffolk. Together Margaret and Billy shared 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

   A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Middle Swamp Baptist Church and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. Burt Pearce. A private burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family in the social hall of the church following the service, or all other times at the residence.
