Lucious Calvin "Cal" Butt, died March 29, 2025, at Charter Senior Living of Annapolis, MD. He was 92. Cal was born November 18, 1932 at home in Perquimans County, Hertford, North Carolina to the late Lucious "Luke" Elexander Butt and Edith Hobbs Butt.

He attended New Hope Elementary School and Perquimans County High School. He graduated from East Carolina College with a BA in Science and Math. He earned a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology. He was married to the former Anne Rountree of Hobbsville, Gates County, North Carolina.

He is survived by two daughters, Catherine Griffiths of Mechanic Falls, Maine and Jo Anne Cottrell and husband James of Elkridge, Maryland; four grandchildren, William and Richard Griffiths, Sara Cottrell and Erin Kelly; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Butt Ownley of Hertford, North Carolina and Joseph Butt of Beallsville, Maryland.

Upon his graduation from East Carolina, Cal received a commission in the United States Air Force where he served for 26 years. He was a pilot in his early career, flying weather reconnaissance and tactical air refueling missions around the world. He later flew as forward air controller in Vietnam. He served two tours of duty in the Pentagon, first on the Air Staff and subsequently in the Office of the Secretary of the United States Air Force. Cal was the recipient of various awards and decorations, among them the Legion of Merit (2), the Distinguished Flying Cross (2), the Bronze Star and the Air Medal (17). After his retirement from the Air Force, he worked twelve years in industry with the General Electric Company and with The Analytic Science Company (TASCO). He and Anne moved to Hurlock in 1992. He was a member of Unity Washington UMC, Reids Grove UMC and the Hurlock Lions Club.

Funeral services will be held at the Zeller Funeral Home on Monday, April 7, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. (106 Main St, East New Market, MD 21631). Friends are invited to gather with the family the hour prior to the service. The interment will follow at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock (6827 E. New Market Ellwood Rd, Hurlock, MD 21643).

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that contributions may be made to the Lions Club Scholarship Fund with the Hurlock Lions Club, P.O. Box 456, Hurlock, MD 21643.
