Lottie Ann Leary Hobbs

   Lottie Ann Leary Hobbs, 88, of 36 Sunbury Bank St., Sunbury, NC, passed away November 8, 2020, at Gates House Assisted Living, Gatesville, NC.

   Mrs. Hobbs was born in Chowan County on October 8, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Lee and Annie Leary. She worked as a cashier for Rountree and Riddick Mercantile in Sunbury, a teller for both Hobbsville Bank in Hobbsville, NC and Crestar Bank in Suffolk, VA. She was a faithful member of Damascus Christian Church where she sang alto for the church choir for many years. She also served in the Women’s Missionary Society, and taught both Sunday School and Bible School classes. She enjoyed many happy hours playing Bridge with her friends.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Wallace Ward Hobbs and siblings, Herbert Leary, Elizabeth Ralph, Trot Leary, Bonnie Nixon and Lewis Leary.

   Surviving are her son, Wade W. Hobbs and wife Linda and daughter, Annette H. Lowe and husband, Ricky, all of Gatesville. Also surviving are her four grandsons, Dane Hobbs (Amanda), Matt Lowe (Stephani), Hunter Lowe (Lauren) and Jay Hobbs (Courtney); great-grandchildren, Gavin, Joanna, Easton, Luke and a baby girl to be born in January; and a brother, Douglas Leary (Becky).

   Graveside service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the cemetery of Damascus Christian Church in Sunbury, with Pastor Mark Wethington presiding and Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, handling arrangements. The family requests social distancing and face masks please and will remain at the cemetery immediately following the service to greet family and friends. At all other times, the family will receive friends at Annette and Ricky’s home, 016 Lowe Road, Gatesville.
