Lois Faye Benton White, 91, of 264 Ridge Road, Belvidere, NC, died Wednesday, November 29, 2023 in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.
Mrs. White was born in Perquimans County on August 18, 1932 and was the daughter of the late John T. “Jack” and Mary Evelyn Lane Benton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Lanier White.
A graduate of Hicks Beauty School in Norfolk, VA, she had retired in 1980 as the owner and operator of Lois Faye’s Beauty Shop in the Whiteston community of Perquimans County where she served her customers for 54 years. Raised in the fellowship of Woodland Methodist Church, after marrying and moving to Whiteston, she was a longtime and faithful member of Up River Friends Meeting where she worked with the Youth and was active in the Elizabeth White Missionary Circle.
Surviving are three sons, Paul White (Maria) and Stuart White (Lisa), both of Belvidere, and Kent White (Brenda) of Hertford; her brother, Glenn Benton (Patricia) of Hertford; eight grandchildren, Austin White (Claye), Connor White, Hannah Hamilton (Evan), Holly Sprague, Blair Cobb, Megan Griffin (Jason), Tori White, and Brianna Swain (Evan); seven great-grandchildren, Harlyn and Foster White, Tatem and Peri Hamilton, Ainsley Griffin, Cannon Cobb, and Tanner Sprague. Also surviving are a niece and nephew, Dawn and David.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Up River Friends Meeting and will be conducted by her former pastor, Richard Wilcox. The burial will be private in the Up River Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family Friday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, in the meeting house fellowship hall following the service, or all other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Up River Friends Meeting, 523 Up River Road, Belvidere, NC 27919 where her desire was that it be used in music department to worship her Lord.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to her church family, the community, her friends, and the Meals on Wheels program for the visits and care they and have shown during her long period of declining health.
