Libby Nixon Moser

Mary Elizabeth Nixon “Libby” Moser, 83, of Yeopim Trail, went to be with the Lord on January 8, 2021, while residing at Elizabeth City Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Libby was born in Pulaski, Virginia on December 17, 1937, one of twelve children born to the late Emory and Eliza Ward Nixon. As a child, she attended a one room school house for eight years, receiving her education alongside many of her brothers and sisters. She faithfully accompanied her Daddy whenever and wherever he preached God’s word, and developed her passion in life of singing gospel songs while playing either the guitar, piano, or accordion. Eventually she served as pianist at Faith Pentecostal Holiness Church for 28 years. Employed several years as a store clerk and factory worker, she spent most of her life as a homemaker and mother to her four children.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Edward Moser; her oldest son, Richard Gilbert; her youngest brother, Johnny Nixon; her oldest sister, Margaret Hulion; and by her former husband and the father of her children, Robert “Bob” Gilbert.

Surviving are her daughter, Karan Harrison (Earl) of Suffolk, VA; two sons, Dewayne Gilbert (Kim), and Jeffrey Gilbert, both of Edenton; three grandchildren, Isaac, Jessica, and Kati Rainn (Jason); and by five great-grandchildren, Madison, Natalie, Carson, Jaxson, and Savanna. She also leaves to cherish her memory her siblings, two brothers, Emory “Bill” Nixon, Jr. and James “Jim” Nixon; and seven sisters, Betty Corley, Janie McClenney, Glenna Kiser, O’Neta Farmer, Shirley Griggs, Barbara Paine, and Sherry Carpenter. She will be fondly remembered by a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, as well as numerous brothers and sisters in the Lord.

A graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. in Beaver Hill Cemetery and will be conducted by Pastor Danny Gurganus. Due to the restrictions and concerns of the Covid-19 Pandemic, no formal visitation is being held, however friends may visit with the family at the gravesite immediately following the service. Masks should be worn, and social distancing measures should be followed by those attending.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family to assist with final expenses.
