Obed Lee Brown, Jr., of Cherokee Trail, Edenton, NC, died Monday, March 30, 2020 in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.
Mr. Brown was born in Bertie County on January 4, 1946, and was the son of the late Obed Lee Brown, Sr. and Pauline Sutton Brown. He had retired as the Director of Modernization for the Housing Commission of Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
Lee loved everything water—sailing, fishing, the Outer Banks, and the Gulf Coast of Florida. He also loved driving all day to nowhere and back home, mowing his lawn, and riding his motorcycle. He was known for his love of his family, for his big smile, and for making people laugh.
Surviving are his fiancé, Karen Keene Gohn; five children, Sara Lewis (Jonas) of Milton, FL, Obed Lee Brown, III (Katie) of Camden, SC, Amanda Wetters (Stanley) of Baltimore, MD, Sonya Olson of Santa Fe, NM, and Nathan Welch of Helena, MT; two sisters; a brother; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, and by Karen’s daughter, Brynn Gati.
In accordance with his wishes, no services are planned, but the family asks everyone to honor his memory by never forgetting to say, “I love you”.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Edenton-Chowan Food Pantry, P.O. Box 643, Edenton, NC 27932, or to any food pantry organization in your respective communities.
Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, assisted the family with arrangements.
