Kent Douglas Smith, 78, of 250 No Say Lane, Cofield, NC, died Wednesday, November 11, 2020 in Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
Mr. Smith was born in Suffolk, VA on February 9, 1942, and was the son of the late Lonnie G. Smith, Sr. and Sallie Bazemore Smith. A retired truck driver and supervisor with Britt Services, he was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death on May 31st of this year by his wife of 44 years, Mary Ann Castelloe Smith; by two sisters, Helen Wall and Marie Lewis; a brother, Lonnie G. Smith, Jr.; and three nephews, Jerry Castelloe, Wayne Clary, and E.J. Burbage.
Left to cherish his memory are three daughters, Joanne Honeycutt and husband, Ben, of New Hill, Joyce Ann Bell and husband, Earl, of Ahoskie, and Wendy Smith Wilson of Pulaski, VA; two grandchildren, Jenny Bland and husband, Keith, of Ahoskie, and Devin Wilson of Pulaski; two great-grandsons, Caleb and Noah Bland of Ahoskie; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.
A graveside service will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery and will be conducted by the Rev. Elmer Vann. Friends may visit with the family at the graveside after the service, where masks and social distancing are encouraged. At other times they will be at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Roanoke-Chowan Wildlife Club, P.O. Box 82, Winton, NC 27986.
