Kathryn Smith King

   Kathryn Arlene Smith King, 77, of Elizabeth City, NC, entered into eternal rest, as the sun began to shine on the morning of Saturday, November 18, 2023, from Sentara Albemarle Medical Center with her family at her side.

   Mrs. King was born in Augusta County, VA on September 12, 1946, and was the daughter of the late Preston Paul, Sr. and Louise Genevieve Caine Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herman David King, two sisters, Christine Hall and an infant sister, Peggy Smith, and by a brother, Preston Smith, Jr.

   A retired custodian from the US Coast Guard Base in Elizabeth City, she enjoyed drawing, painting, and working with crafts, and was a devoted Atlanta Braves baseball fan.

   Surviving are her two daughters, Krystal King and Kari King (Stephen Locklear) both of Elizabeth City; two sons, Brett King (Angie) of Elizabeth City and Paul Daniel “Danny” Smith (Christy) of Newport News, VA; a sister, Judy Barnard, also of Newport News, VA; three grandchildren, Megan Walker (Zach), and Ryan and Race Smith; and her beloved “fur babies”, Ben and Millie.

   A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. 

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA of Northeastern NC, 102 Enterprise Drive, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
