Katherine Boyd May

  Katherine Irene Boyd “Gooba” May, 76, of Knotts Island, NC, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 1, 2024, from Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, Virginia Beach, VA.

  Mrs. May was born in Norfolk, VA on March 25, 1948, and was the daughter of the late Harvey Thomas and Virginia Elizabeth Taylor Boyd. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert and James.

  Known as “Kathy” to many of her friends, she retired as a bank teller following 25 years of employment. She enjoyed the outdoors, which included her love of gardening and being at the beach. Also, our “Gooba” really enjoyed thrifting with her daughter, Brandi, and spending time with her precious grandchildren, Holland and Landin. A sweet, selfless and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend, she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

  Surviving is her husband of nearly 40 years, Charles Stephen “Steve” May; her daughter, Brandi Spruill (husband, Brian) of Knotts Island; a sister, Gennie Tarkenton; a brother, Harvey Boyd, Jr.; and two grandsons, Holland and Landin.

  A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, August 24, at 11:00 a.m. in Blackwater Baptist Church, 6000 Blackwater Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23457.

  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a Go Fund Me campaign for her niece, Peyton, as she awaits her perfect match with a seizure alert/diabetic alert dog, and also for Kathy’s sweet husband, Steve, who for many years has also battled with diabetes.
