Katherine Ownley Godfrey

   Katherine Ownley “Maw” Godfrey, 79, of 517 Castleton Drive, Hertford, NC, passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2018.

   Mrs. Godfrey was born in Elizabeth City on October 9, 1939, and was the daughter of the late David Cain and Beatrice Dail Ownley. Formerly employed as a Case Worker with the Department of Social Services, she had also owned Memory Dolls in Elizabeth City, where she even enjoyed playing with the dolls in the shop, especially her favorite doll, Ruth. She was a longtime and faithful member of Berea Church of Christ.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, David “Pep” Godfrey.

   Surviving are her husband and the love of her life for 62 years, Preston Godfrey; their children, Mickey Godfrey (wife Sharon), Kathy Fairfax (husband Doug), Angie Dawson (husband Randy), and Chris Godfrey; her brothers, Sam and Wesley Ownley and their families; her grandsons, Everett Meads (wife Cassie), Eric and Corey Midgett, Perry Dawson, and Christopher “Cain” Godfrey. Katherine also leaves six beautiful great-grandchildren.

   A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 18^th, at 2:00 p.m. in Berea Church of Christ, and will be conducted by the Rev. Perry Dawson. A private family burial service will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation on Saturday, November 17^th, from 2 to 4 pm at Katherine and Preston’s home.

   In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her memory be directed to the Christian Women’s Fellowship (CWF) at Berea Church of Christ, 1664 New Hope Road, Hertford, NC 27944, to support their work in missions.
