Karen Sawyer Grimes

  Karen Sawyer Grimes, 67, of Hertford, NC, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2024 in her home where she was being cared for by family.

 Ms. Grimes was born in Norfolk, VA on July 28, 1956, and was the daughter of the late James Ervin and Louise Josephine Strickland Sawyer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Steve Sawyer.

 Retired from the Fleet Surveillance Support Command following 31 years of employment in civil service, among her many enjoyments included spending time on the Yeopim River and traveling. 

 Surviving is her daughter, Kimberly Sanders of Chesapeake, VA; four grandchildren, Alexica Kelly, Nathan Delaney, Elizabeth Silliman, and Bradford Sanders; her companion, Winter Faison of Hertford; and her former husband, Anthony Grimes (wife, Denise) of Pilot Point, TX.

 A private gathering will be held by the family
