Julia Ann Bundy Onley, 91, of 707 New Hope Road, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2024, in her home where she was being lovingly cared for by family.
Mrs. Onley was born in Pasquotank County on May 22, 1933, and was the daughter of the late John Clyde, Sr. and Julia Miller Bundy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Edward Onley, Sr., sisters, Hazel Bell and Frances Perry, and by brothers, John, Woodley and Calvin Bundy.
Retired as an Assistant Clerk from the Town of Hertford, she was a member of Cedar Grove Methodist Church where she faithfully played the piano for over 65 years. Other enjoyments included her love of gardening and flowers, embroidery, riding the roads and looking at farm fields and the harvesting of crops, and she loved nothing more than going out to eat and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving is her daughter, Cindy Ward (Jerry) of Tyner; a son, Aubrey Onley, Jr. (Sheila) of Hertford; five grandchildren, Justin Ward (Erica), Julie Byrum (Neil), Rachel O’Kelley (Zack), Ryan Onley (Payton), and Darin Onley (Jordyn); six great-grandchildren, Jackson and Aubree Lynn Ward, Tucker and Addy Byrum, and Grace and Lela Rae O’Kelley; and nieces, nephews, and other extended members of the Bundy and Onley families.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Cedarwood Cemetery and will be conducted by the Revs. Carroll Bundy and Buck Leary. Friends may visit with the family at the residence.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to her caregiver, Shirley Rankins, and to the staff of Albemarle Home Care and Hospice for the love and dedication provided to Mrs. Onley during her time of need.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cedar Grove Methodist Church, in care of Monica Thornton, 418 Lake Road, or to Durant’s Neck Vol. Fire Department, 1714 New Hope Road, both in Hertford, NC 27944.
