Elaine Hughes Smyth

   Joyce Elaine Hughes Smyth, 74, of 258 Drum Hill Road, Corapeake, NC, died Monday, December 16, 2019, in her home.

   Elaine was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on August 30, 1945, and was the daughter of the late Charles Evans Hughes and Ruth Wilkins Hughes. A Licensed Practical Nurse, she worked for over 30 years, and retired after suffering a stroke in 2004.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Smyth.

   Surviving are two sons, David Clark Stevens of Corapeake and Scott Evans Stevens of Chesapeake, VA; and other extended family members.

   A memorial service will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and will be conducted by Hospice Chaplain Steven Mills. The burial will be private in the family cemetery
