Joseph Allen Baker, 69, of 125 Harris Landing Road, Edenton, NC, died Tuesday, October 12, 2021 in Vidant Chowan Hospital.
Mr. Baker was born in Pasquotank County on January 16, 1952, and was the son of the late John Lloyd and Martha Frances Whitehurst Baker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Shelton Baker.
A retired civil service employee, he had worked as an aviation sheet metal mechanic with FRC East, Cherry Point. A Disabled American Veteran, he had served with the Army on two tours of duty in Vietnam and was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Other memberships enjoyed were with Rocky Hock Baptist Church and the North Carolina Beach Buggy’s Association.
Surviving is his wife of 48 years, Rose Ainsley Baker, and their daughter, Aleta Baker of Edenton; three sisters, Kay Height and Joyce Ann Baker, both of Wake Forest, and Lucy Mae Baker of New Bern; and two brothers, James Lee Baker of Florida and John Edward Baker of Tennessee.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 30, 2021 in Rocky Hock Baptist Church and will be conducted by Pastor Rusty Womack. In accordance with CDC guidelines, and with the resurgence of the Covid Virus in the area, the family is asking that all those attending the service wear masks and adhere to social distancing.
No formal visitation is planned; however, friends are invited to speak with the family in the vestibule immediately following the service, or other times at the residence.
