Jollish Clifton

   Jollish Clifton, beloved Father and Grandfather, of Elizabeth City, NC, passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2023.

   He was born in Creswell, North Carolina on January 28, 1937, to the late Sherod Warren Clifton and Ida Mary Sawyer Clifton. 

   As a young man he came to Elizabeth City, North Carolina and worked with his uncle J. Winton Sawyer. After graduating from Elizabeth City High School, he married the love of his life, Sheila Margaret Payne. Together they had two daughters, Kimberly Ann, and Mary Kathleen. After 21 years in the United States Air Force, they returned to Elizabeth City and Jollish started Clifton & Clifton Monuments with his two daughters working beside him.

   In addition to his parents, Jollish was preceded in death by his beautiful wife Sheila, oldest daughter Kimberly Ann, grandson Scott Patton Givens, Jr., and four sisters and three brothers. 

   Left to celebrate his long life is his daughter, Kathleen Givens and husband Scott; four grandchildren, Jollish Clayton Elliott, Kathleen Callis Elliott, Sheila Louise Givens Hudson and husband John, Tammy Givens (wife of the late Scott Patton Givens, Jr.) and Tabatha Ann Givens Baker and husband Chris; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Audrey Jones and Grace Zurawicki.

   Graveside services with full military honors will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Elizabeth City. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the home, 31 Camden Causeway, Elizabeth City.

   In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, 1453 N. Road Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
