Johnny Mack Hendrix, 83, of 242 Cannon’s Ferry Road, Tyner, NC, died Tuesday, August 6, 2024, in Gates House Assisted Living in Gatesville.
Mr. Hendrix was born in Chowan County on March 10, 1941, and was the son of the late Noah M. “Mack” and Adelaide Layden Hendrix. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Randy E. Hendrix, and by his sister, Janet Faye Hendrix Martin.
Retired from Advance Auto Parts in Edenton, many in the area will remember him from earlier employments at Winslow-Blanchard Motor Company in Hertford and CarQuest Auto Parts in Elizabeth City.
Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Nancy Trueblood Hendrix; his daughter, Lisa H. Perry, her husband, Shane, and their children, Tony B. Hendrix (Haleigh) and Kayla N. Perry, all of Elizabeth City; and many cousins and extended members of both the Layden and Hendrix families.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home and Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be conducted by the Rev. Joey Nixon and Hospice Chaplain Brandon Higson. A private burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service, or all other times at the residence.
