John Jordan Chappell, Jr.

   John Jordan Chappell, Jr., 66, of Norfolk, VA, joined his Lord and Savior on Monday, November 14, 2022, surrounded by his family.

   Born at DePaul Hospital in Norfolk, VA on October 8, 1956, he was the son of John Jordan Chappell, Sr. and the late Ruth Richardson Chappell.

   For over 40 years, John has been a respected member of his community who owned and operated his construction company, Chappell Builders. As a Class A contractor, he held his company to high standards and quality workmanship. John was also a real estate investor having owned properties in Virginia and North Carolina.

   A member of Talbot Park Baptist Church, he was also a Freemason with Ruth Lodge #89 AF & AM. He loved to travel with his family, both home and abroad. Other enjoyments in his life included collecting stamps and coins and researching the history of Norfolk. Family and friends will remember him for his generosity, value of family, quirky sense of humor, determination, strong work ethic and "Chappellese".

   In addition to his father, left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife of 36 years, Angela; son, John J. Chappell, III (Dana); daughter, Ashleigh V. Shea (Jonathan); two grandsons, Lucas J. Shea and John J. Chappell, IV; two sisters, Cynthia Arndt and Deborah Perry (Thomas); brother, David Chappell; numerous family and friends; and his beloved fox terrier, Duke.

   A graveside celebration of his life will be held Saturday, November 19, at 11:00 a.m. in Cedarwood Cemetery, 200 Jimmy Hunter Drive, Hertford, NC.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made either to the SPCA, or the Shriners Hospitals for Children, or to Talbot Park Baptist Church.
