John Ralph Brabble

   John Ralph Brabble, 100, formerly of Soundside Road, Edenton, NC, died Wednesday, December 9, 2020 in Chowan River Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

   Mr. Brabble was born in Chowan County on February 5, 1920, and was one of eight children born to the late John Wilson Brabble and Varena Harris Brabble. A retired board Sawyer in the lumber industry, he was a member of Edenton Baptist Church. An Army veteran of World War II, he served nearly four years, saw action in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, and achieved the rank of Corporal.

   In addition to his parents and siblings, he was preceded in death in December of 2016 by his wife of over 69 years, Esther Lee Williams Brabble.

   Surviving are his daughter, Sarah Ellen Sturcke and husband, Kenneth, of Mohawk, NY; his son, Donald R. Brabble and wife, Sally, of Bow, NH; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

   A graveside service will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Beaver Hill Cemetery and will be conducted by his pastor, The Rev. David Brooks. Military Honors will be accorded.

   In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Edenton Baptist Church, 200 South Granville Street, Edenton, NC 27932.
