John Melton Adams, 83, of 116 Morris Circle, Edenton, NC, died Thursday, November 2, 2023 in his home where he was cared for by his family.
Mr. Adams was born in Chowan County on April 20, 1940 and was the son of the late Walter and Ethia Winslow Adams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Spencer Adams.
A retired track foreman with Norfolk Southern Railway, he later worked as a driver transporting tourists with the Edenton Trolley Tours. An Army veteran, he was proud to have served as the personal driver for General William C. Westmoreland, Commander of Armed Forces during the height of the Vietnam War.
Surviving are two sons, Eric Wayne Adams (wife, Kateryna) of Woodbridge, VA and John Walter Adams of Edenton; and a brother, Herbert Ray Adams (wife, Gloria) of Amelia Island, FL. Also surviving are Linda’s children, Kimberly D. Dennis (husband, Michael) of Chesapeake, VA and James N. “Jimmy” Young of Henrico, VA. Together John and Linda shared five grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth, Penelope Valentina, and Benjamin Blair Adams, and Nicholas Dean and Brock Alexander Dennis; and three great-grandchildren, Jakob Alexander, Darren Kraemer, and Kamille Kraemer Dennis.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be conducted by his pastor, The Reverend Elizabeth Polk of Edenton United Methodist Church. The burial will be private in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service.
