Joanne F. Wilkins

 Joanne Farr Wilkins, 74, of 3123 Rocky Hock Road, NC, died Wednesday, June 26, 2024, in ECU Health Chowan Hospital.

 Mrs. Wilkins was born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 2, 1949, and was the daughter of the late Edward and Florence Mary White Farr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Nixon “Bobby” Wilkins; and by Bobby’s family, his parents, Bennie and Bessie Nixon Wilkins, and his brother, Garland Wilkins, all formerly of the Rocky Hock community.

 Joanne will be remembered by many for her years as a waitress in both Boswell’s Restaurant in Edenton, and The Soundview Restaurant in the Pea Ridge community of Washington County. She had also worked as a demo food representative with both the Harris Teeter and Food Lion grocery chains, and as a home improvement projects promoter for Mr. Rodgers Windows, Bath Fitters, and Melani Brothers. As health permitted, she attended Rocky Hock Baptist Church.

 Surviving is a nephew, Louis Garland “Buddy” Wilkins of Plymouth, several cousins and extended members of the John Thomas and Dicie Nixon family and their descendants, and caring neighbors for many years, Lee and Shelia Bass.

 A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 30th, at 3:00 p.m. in Edenton United Methodist Church and will be conducted by Pastor Elizabeth Polk.

 Because of her love for her feline companion and house cat, “Peaches”, and the several stray cats that gave her much joy and comfort as they beckoned at her back door for food, it is suggested that in lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory be made to the Tri-County Animal Shelter, 138 Icaria Road, Tyner, NC 27980.
