Joan Hadlock Fiala

   Joan Marie Hadlock Fiala, 86, of 101 Potecasi Creek Court, Hertford, NC, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023 in ECU Health Medical Center, Greenville.

   Mrs. Fiala was born in Elmira, NY on May 21, 1936, and was the daughter of the late Harry M. and Mary Flynn Hadlock. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Ann Smith and Mimi McManus, and by a brother, John "Lonnie" Hadlock.

   Mrs. Fiala attended Keuka College in Keuka Park, NY, and for many years served as the secretary to Roy H. Park with Duncan Hines Company. Later she was employed as a real estate agent with Coldwell-Banker, and had also served as president of The Arc NY chapter based in Binghamton, NY. The Arc NY is an organization serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. A Catholic by faith, in more recent years she attended St. Ann Catholic Church in Edenton.

   Surviving is her husband of 65 years, John I. Fiala; her daughter, Ellen Ann Fiala of Hertford; her son, Paul John Fiala (wife, Kristine) of Rolesville; and a grandson, Sean Patrick Fiala. Joan will be remembered as a caring and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

   A memorial service will be held Monday, April 3^rd, at 11:00 a.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by Pastor Jay Rivenbark. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home immediately following the service.
