Jo Ellen Hammond Copeland, 63, of 132 Evans-Bass Road, Edenton, NC passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2024, in her home.
Mrs. Copeland was born in Fort Bend County Texas on September 14, 1960, and was one of 10 children born to the late Donnis Everett Hammond and Billie Jo Broz Hammond. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Earl Copeland, and by brothers, Freddie, Pat, and Donnis. A homemaker, in recent years she had been employed at the Frog Crossing in Edenton. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Roper.
Surviving is her daughter, Misty Dawn Tatem; her son, Aaron Earl Copeland; three grandchildren, Ella Grace Tatem, Annabelle Reese Mizelle, and Kinley Grace Copeland, all of Edenton; her adoptive mother, Faye Green of Lansing, MI; sister, Barbara; five brothers, Ernie, Glenn, Edwin, Billy, and Lonnie; her friend/sister, Debbie Wood; three foster brothers, Mike, Dale, and Ben; and other extended family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. J.N. Worsley. The burial will follow in the Harrell Family Cemetery in the Rocky Hock community. Friends may join the family in the funeral home the hour prior to services on Saturday, and other times at the residence.
