Jimmy Greene

   James Samuel “Jimmy” Greene, Sr., 68, of 103 S. Main Street, Winton, NC, passed away Monday, January 6, 2020 in the Vidant Inpatient Hospice in Greenville.

   Born in Hertford County on March 21, 1951, he was the son of the late James Zachery and Josephine Dalphine Jones Greene. A retired truck driver, he grew up in the fellowship of Eure Baptist Church. A Marine Corps veteran, he served in the Vietnam War and was awarded numerous decorations including the Purple Heart.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Libby Greene.

   Surviving are his two daughters, Pam Wills (Brian) of Wakefield, VA and Lynn Greene (Kim Lunde) of Ayden; a son, Sammy Greene (Racheal) of Corapeake; a sister, Peggy Wright of Suffolk, VA; a sister-in-law, Trudy Williams of Windsor; a special niece and “tin”, Trudy Lane; a special nephew, Jamie Williams; five grandchildren; a great-grandson, many other nieces and nephews who were considered like his children, and extended family members and friends.

   A memorial service will be held Friday at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and will be conducted by the Rev. Joe Futrell. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service.
