Jessie Mae Winslow Williams, 97, of 231 Ridge Road, Belvidere, NC, died peacefully at her residence on Thursday, November 8, 2018. A native of Perquimans County, she was born on November 6, 1921 and was the daughter of Jesse Thomas Winslow, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Chappell Winslow.
A beloved wife & mother and a doting grandmother & great-grandmother, Mrs. Williams leaves behind a legacy of deep love and devotion to her family. She was a dedicated farmer’s wife, passionate homemaker, and loyal caregiver to many. A longtime member of Up River Friends Meeting, she served on several committees in her earlier years and especially enjoyed her time teaching children’s Sunday school.
Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by four sisters: Allie Winslow, Clarine Winslow, Delsie White, and Millie Eder; a brother: Jesse Thomas (J.T.) Winslow, Jr.; two brothers-in-law: Dorus Copeland and Edmond White; a granddaughter: Staci Crain.
She is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, Herbert Lee Williams, Jr. They were married on March 17, 1945. She is also survived by a sister: Blannie Copeland of Tyner; a brother-in-law: Paul Eder of Winter Park, FL; two daughters: Phyllis Watts (Kenny) of Raleigh and Darlene Benton of Charleston, SC; two sons: David Williams (Annette) and Kelvin Williams of Belvidere; seven grandchildren: Thomas Crain (Angela) of Willow Spring and Amanda Thompson (Brad) of Wake Forest; Melanie Hebert of Augusta, GA and Trevor Benton (Ashley) of Greenville, SC; Lynette Sawyer (Kevin), Ashley Williams (Katie), and Tina Williams, all of Belvidere; fifteen great-grandchildren: Joseph, Wilson, and Griffin Crain of Willow Spring; Chase, Spencer, Blake, and Grant Thompson of Wake Forest; Ricky and Zach Hebert of Augusta, GA; Jackson and Molly Benton of Greenville, SC; and Jacob and Leah Sawyer, Nathan and Luke Williams, all of Belvidere.
A special thank you to Dr. Karl Brandspigel, for his many years of care and concern, and to Albemarle Home Care and Hospice, for their recent kindness and support.
A memorial service will be held Monday, November 12, at 11:00 am at Up River Friends Meeting by Pastor Chuck Hartman. Friends may greet the family in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service and all other times at the home. An inurnment will be scheduled in the Up River Cemetery at a later date when the love of her life joins her.
