Jesse Leroy “Roy” Johnson, 84, of 1066 Four Forks Road, Elizabeth City, NC, passed away Friday, February 21, 2025, in his home where he was being cared for by family.
Mr. Johnson was born in Pasquotank County on December 17, 1940, and was the son of the late Jesse Latham and Nellie Ralph Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Lynn Johnson, and his brother, William Walter Johnson.
A Printer Service Coordinator, he retired from College of the Albemarle following 43 years of employment. In earlier years he was proud to have worked with Pell Paper Box Company in Elizabeth City where he received valuable training that helped him in his graphic arts career. He was a member of Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and as a former Sunday School teacher. Other enjoyments included gardening, working in the yard, and rabbit hunting.
Surviving is his wife of nearly 65 years, Vickie Anne Evans Johnson; a daughter, Lisa Charlene Johnson Sawyer (Keith) of Camden; two sons, David B. Johnson of Chester, VA and Terence L. Johnson of Colorado; six grandchildren, Danielle Nicole Johnson, Victoria Sue Sawyer Cardea (Trever), Caroline Belle Sawyer, Jesse Stanley Sawyer, Jacob Adam Cartwright (Amber), and Justin Evan Cartwright; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. in Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church and will be conducted by the Rev. Don Carter. A private burial will follow in New Hollywood Cemetery. Friends may join the family at the residence.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the staff of Albemarle Home Care and Hospice for their dedicated and loving care during their time of need.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Music Ministry at Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church, 700 N. Road Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
