Jeffery Thomas “Jeff” Powell, 62, of 170 Powell Lane, Eure, NC, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 in his home.
Jeff was a lifelong resident of Gates County, and was the son of Thomas Madison Powell, Sr. of Eure and the late Nellie Cahoon Powell. A carpenter and building contractor, his handiwork can be seen all over Gates County. He was proud of the houses he built throughout the county, and the friends he made while creating their homes.
Jeff loved to hunt and fish. He was a former member of the Gates County Hunt Club, the White Oak Hunt Club, Ray’s Beach Fishing Club, and the Hare’s Mill Wildlife Club. Throughout his membership in each of these clubs, he had held several officer or leadership positions. Another area of enjoyment was his serving as co-chair of the area chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation. He was raised in the fellowship of Cool Spring Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by two brothers, infant Llewellyn Powell and Tom Powell, Jr.
Surviving is his wife of 41 years, JoAnne Eure Powell; and their children, Joshua Powell (Kelly) and Jennifer Prince (Aaron). Also surviving are two brothers, Chris Powell (Kirsten) and Scott Powell (Rhonda); a sister-in-law, Shirley Paige Powell; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Gatlington Landing Boating Access Area, 1070 Sandbanks Road, Gates, and will be conducted by the Rev. Wade Bennett. A private burial will follow in the Powell Family Cemetery near the home.
Friends may visit with the family at the landing immediately following the service on Friday, or all other times at the residence. Masks and social distancing guidelines will be followed for both the service and the time of visitation.
