Elizabeth Jeanette Temple Pridgen, 87, of Newland Township, Elizabeth City, NC, passed away quietly from this world on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, following a hard fought battle with an illness.
Born in Pasquotank County on January 17, 1932, she was the daughter of the late William Joseph and Elizabeth Whitehurst Temple. A Licensed Practical Nurse, she was employed with Albemarle Hospital for many years, had worked as a Bakery/Deli manager with Byrd Foods, and lastly with Todd's Pharmacy in Elizabeth City where she could be found greeting people and working at their drive-through window. An active member of Newland United Methodist Church, she participated in bible studies, conversed with pastors, and was involved with all the matters of the church. She was also a life-member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She was a woman constantly on the move with a great zest for not letting the sun set on her activities. Holidays on the East Coast spent with her son, his wife, and grandson, trips to New Mexico where she visited her eldest son; they all lent to who she was as a person.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Pridgen, and by a brother, Billy Temple.
Surviving are her two sons, Dr. Leroy Armon McPherson of Placitas, NM, and William Roy McPherson and wife, Vivian, of Wanchese; and her grandson, Charles Joseph McPherson of Tampa, FL.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Memory Gardens Cemetery, and will be conducted by the Rev. Toni Wood.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Newland United Methodist Church 1686 Morgan's Corner Road, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, is assisting the family with arrangements, and online condolences may be made by visiting www.millerfhc.com.
