Jean Case Powell

   Jean Harrell Case Powell, 92, of 119 Savage Road, Corapeake, NC, died Tuesday, April 27, 2021 in Gates House Assisted Living, Gatesville.

   Mrs. Powell was born in Wayne County on May 1, 1928, and was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Case and Louise Walton Harrell Case. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Vance Powell, Sr., and by a sister, Ann Case Boyette Abernathy.

   A retired secretary and bookkeeper with G.P. Kittrell & Son, she was a faithful member of Parker’s United Methodist Church as long as her health permitted.

   Surviving are three daughters, Margaret Powell Ivey of Corapeake, Linda Powell Morgan (husband, Skip) of Manteo, and Faye Powell Currin (husband, Tony) of Raleigh; two sons, Curtis Vance Powell, Jr. (wife, Cathy) of Garner, and Ronald Wayne Powell (wife, Deborah) of Corapeake; a sister, Hilda Case Hobbs of Richmond, VA; and a brother, Benjamin F. Case, Jr. of Suffolk, VA. She was known by her 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, and by many others as “Mama Jean”.

   A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 15^th, at 3:00 p.m. in Parker’s United Methodist Church, and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. Joan Fischer, and by longtime family friend, Bishop Hope Morgan Ward. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

   Friends may visit with the family on Friday, May 14^th, from 7 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, or at the graveside immediately following the service on Saturday.
