Jean Copeland Pierce

   Jean Copeland Pierce, 49, of 104 Hickory Lane, Edenton, NC, died Thursday, February 3, 2022 in her home.

   Jean was born in Chowan County on March 12, 1972, and was the only child of Connie Jean Clements Copeland of Edenton and the late Joseph Thomas Copeland. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, William S. and Jewel King Clements, and her paternal grandparents, Joseph Copeland and Pencie C. Minter.

   A 1991 graduate of John A. Holmes High School, she was an associate agent with North Carolina Farm Bureau Insurance and worked in their Hertford office. She was a faithful member of Open Door Church.

   Life’s enjoyments for Jean included a good nap, spending time with her family, and taking trips to the beach. Her friends, whom she enjoyed, remember her quick, sharp wit, her loyalty, her good judge of character, her ability to analyze people and situations, and her making “your pain, her pain”. A close friend said of Jean, “You were fortunate to be in her circle of friends”.

   With her mother, she is survived by her husband of 29 years, Kenneth Paul “Kent” Pierce; their children, Ellison Jewel “Ellie” Pierce of Edenton and Jacob Alan Pierce of Raleigh; mother and father-in-law, Carol Jean and Paul Pierce; and brother-in-law, Michael Pierce. Also surviving is her “heart sister” Darlene MacCallum.

   A memorial service celebrating her life will be held Wednesday, February 9^th, at 5:00 p.m. in Open Door Church and will be conducted by the Rev. Steve Mizell and the Rev. Randy Pierce. Friends may visit with the family in the church immediately following the service, or other times at the residence.

   The family asks that flowers be omitted and contributions in her memory be made to Open Door Church, P.O. Box 1095, Edenton, NC 27932, (where it will be used to further fund the Open Door Mercy Home in India), or to a charity of one’s choice.
