Jean Outlaw Cobb

   Jean Outlaw Cobb, 84, of 1913 US 17 North, Merry Hill, NC, passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, in her home.

   Mrs. Cobb was born in Bertie County on December 15, 1933, and was the daughter of the late Hersey Raymond and Lida Overton Outlaw. A homemaker, she was a retired farmer from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, now Avoca Farms, at their Merry Hill operation. A faithful member of Merry Hill Baptist Church, she served as its secretary for nearly 50 years, wrote and managed the Christmas plays, worked in Vacation Bible School, and led the planning and cooking for the members birthday dinners.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Henderson Gray “H.G.” Cobb; son, Bud Cobb; sister, Faye Harrell; and brother, Hersey Ronald Outlaw.

   Surviving are her daughter, Deborah Cobb Hoggard and husband, Jim, of Merry Hill; twin sons, Jamie Cobb and wife, Kristie, of Merry Hill, and Jodie Cobb and wife, Kim, of Greenville; her daughter-in-law, Nora Cobb of Colerain; a sister, Brenda Sue Outlaw of Albemarle; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

   Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Merry Hill Baptist Church and will be conducted by the Revs. Frank Thigpen and Stanley Nixon. The burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery in Edenton. Friends may join the family at the church the hour prior to services, and all other times at the residence.
