Janie Louise Leggett Lee, 89, of 1821 US 17 North, died Thursday, January 30, 2025, in Three Rivers Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Windsor.
Mrs. Lee was born in Martin County on April 5, 1935, and was the only daughter born to the late Andy Poe and Rosa Edmondson Leggett. With her parents, three of her brothers have preceded her in death.
Retired from the Bertie County Public School System where she worked as the Food Service Director, she was a longtime and faithful member of Riverside Baptist Church where she was a member of the Martha Sunday School Class, had worked in Vacation Bible School, and had taught the preschool age Sunday School for many, many years.
Surviving is her husband of nearly 69 years, Vernon Franklin “Frankie” Lee; their daughters, Vicky Lee Hoggard (husband, Michael), Ellen Lee Bunch (husband, Ben), and Janet Lee Copeland (husband, Tom), all of Merry Hill; a brother, Gene Leggett of Williamston; seven grandchildren, Michelle, Stephanie, Lee, Hank, Wil, Catie, and Phillip; seven great-grandchildren, Sarah, Mckinley, Reed, Rosie, Eli, Taylor, and Hunter; a sister-in-law, Annette Stokes of Merry Hill; and many extended members of both the Leggett and Lee families.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 2nd, at 2:00 p.m. in Riverside Baptist Church and will be conducted by Pastor Bill Payne. The burial will be private and held at a later time. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the residence.
