Janice Spruill Woodley, 87, of Creswell, NC, died Monday, August 31, 2020, at Forest Ridge Assisted Living in West Jefferson, NC.
Mrs. Woodley was born in Washington County on May 6, 1933, and was the daughter of the late Phillip Murray and Iolia Turner Spruill. Janice worked with East Carolina Bank in Creswell for over 30 years, retiring as Vice President, and had also been a co-owner of the former Tastee-Freeze of Creswell. She was a life-long member of Philippi Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Winnie S. Brickhouse; brothers, William M. “Bill” Spruill and James Phillip “Phil” Spruill; and in 2011 by her husband of over 60 years, Richard Davenport Woodley.
Surviving are three daughters, Pamela W. Davenport (Marshall) of Creswell, and J. Darlene Woodley and Michele W. Swart (John), all of Creston; three sisters, Laquita S. Gibbs of Newport News, VA, Jayne S. Opfer of Benson, and Brenda J. Spruill of Edenton; five grandchildren, Christopher L. Davenport (Kacey) of Hoover, AL, Marcie D. Wells (David) of Weaverville, J. Derek Swart (Michelle) of Berlin, Germany, Jenna S. McDonnell (Marc) of Trussville, AL, and William R. Swart of Carrboro; ten great-grandchildren, Miriam, Cooper, Pete, Silas, Lily, Case, Lucy, Hardie, Cipie, and Ansel; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday, September 5th, at 3:00 p.m. in the Philippi Church of Christ Cemetery and will be conducted by Pastors Glenn Brickhouse and Thomas Biggs.
