James Edward Wilson, Sr., 87, of Edenton, NC, passed away peacefully from natural causes on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, in ECU Health Chowan Hospital, Edenton.
Mr. Wilson was born in Norfolk, VA on January 16, 1937, and was the son of the late James A., Sr. and Lillian Mae Miles Wilson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gloria Davis Wilson, his son, James Edward Wilson Jr. (wife, Dollie, deceased), sisters, Louise Douglas and Dorothy Mobley, and by brothers, Russell Wilson and James A. “Buddy” Wilson, Jr.
Throughout his life, James valued hard work and dedication having retired as a Foreman in the Bridges and Drains Department with the City of Norfolk. An Army veteran, he was proud of his service to our country. He found joy in simple pleasures and cherished spending time with his family. His memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Surviving is his devoted daughter, Deborah Boothe (Dennis), who lovingly cared for him during his medical challenges. James leaves behind a legacy of love and family and will be remembered fondly by his five grandchildren, Dye-Anne Klein, James Klein (Megan), Amanda Klein, Ashley Wilson (Steve), and Timothy Boothe (Brandi). Additionally, surviving are seven great-grandchildren, Alyssa Hohbach, Harlen Hohbach, Oliver James Boothe, Levi Boothe, Kasen Lee Hathaway, Rain Klein, and James Wilson "Little James" Klein whose lives he enriched with his wisdom and kindness.
A gathering for friends to visit with the family will be held Tuesday from 5:00 to 6:00 pm. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions either be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave. Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601 (online at www.alz.org), or to any chapter of the American Cancer Society.
James will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace and his spirit forever be remembered in the hearts of those he loved.
