James Alma “Jimmy” White, Jr., 82, of 640 Center Hill Road, died Thursday, December 12, 2024, in his home where he was cared for by his family.
Mr. White was born in Perquimans County on September 6, 1942, and was the son of the late James A. White, Sr. and Edith Mae Asbell White Bunch. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Carmen Delgado; by his brother, Willis Landing; by a granddaughter, Lindsey Styons McCoy; and by a great-granddaughter, Mariela.
A retired barge captain after 35 years with Maritrans Transportation and later with American Maritime Officers (A.M.O.), in his weeks off from the barge he worked with Preston Monds & Son Farming. He was a member of Center Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving is his wife of 44 years, Joyce Gardner White; his daughter, Virginia “Ginny” White; his son, Philip Edwin White (Jacque), all of Tyner; two sisters, Annette Parrish (husband, Marvin, deceased) of Edenton and Eloise Coltrain (husband, Phil, deceased) of Roper; his sister-in-law, Margaret Fomes of Chocowinity; eight grandchildren, Matthew White (Courtney), Stephen White (Ashton), Chelsea Stevens, Jonathan Styons (Celsey), Hallie White, Melanie Delgado, Ricky Delgado, and Kaila Miguel (Jobi); ten great-grandchildren, Natalee, Cason, Emmie, Summer, Isabella, Samantha, Aiden, Sylas, Ke’anokupa’a, and A’ali’kumakaniolaka; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Center Hill Baptist Church and will be conducted by the Rev. Russell Blanchard and the Rev. Don English. Friends may visit with the family in the Center Hill Community Building immediately following the service on Sunday and other times at the residence.
