James Matthew Lacy, Sr.

James Matthew Lacy, Sr.

   James Matthew “Jim” Lacy, Sr., 82, 1111 Shellie Drive, Elizabeth City, NC, passed away Monday, April 29, 2024 in his home.

   Mr. Lacy was born in Pasquotank County on November 4, 1941, and was the son of the late Calvin Leon,Sr. and Maggie Margaret Rhmes Lacy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James M. Lacy, Jr., and by sisters, Violet, Evelyn, and Margie.

   Retired from civil service, he was a member of Victory Baptist Church, and through the years had been active in prison ministry. Among his many enjoyments in life, he loved gardening.

   Surviving is his wife of 40 years, Sandra Jennings Lacy; a daughter, Patty Lacy of Kill Devil Hills; two sisters, Mildred O’Berry of Texas and Helen Waggner of Florida; and a brother, Calvin Lacy of Hertford. Also surviving are Sandra’s children, Carol, Eddie (Linda), Joey (Kim), Tonji, and Debbie. Together Jim and Sandra shared 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

   Graveside services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Elizabeth City, and will be conducted by Pastor R.L. Parker. Friends may visit with the family at the gravesite immediately following the service and other times at the residence.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Victory Baptist Ministries, 684 Old Hertford Hwy, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
