James Ray “Lil Jimmy” Herba, 23, of Hertford, NC, had his life cut short on Wednesday, August 7, 2024.
Lil Jimmy was born in Pasquotank County on March 30, 2001. From an early age, he always had a love for the outdoors, was an avid fisherman, and loved to tear things apart and then put them back together again. Among his many enjoyments, he loved swimming, cooking, drawing and freestyle rapping. Most importantly, he looked forward to every second spent with his baby girl, Harper. Known for his quick-witted and hilarious personality, his contagious laugh, carefree, spirited personality, his fearlessness, and beautiful smile, he was kind and charismatic and shared his loving side with the ones who meant most to him.
Surviving is his daughter, Harper Herba; mother, Earline Hunter (David); father, James Herba; sisters, Courtney Asbury (Chris) and Jacklynn Angley; brothers, Brantley, Steven and Matthew Herba; his fiancée, Darlene Lane; and his bonus son, Zy‘mir, Also surviving are his nephews, Paxton, Liam, Jack, and Jameson; a niece, Milah; and extended family members and many close “brothers-from-other-mothers”. He was preceded in death by his brother, Tyler Herba, his maternal grandparents, Joyce & Earl Vandgrift, and by his paternal grandmother, Elaine Mathews.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, August 17, at 5:00 p.m. at the park on the grounds of the Holiday Island Clubhouse, 123 Clubhouse Road, Hertford.
