Jack Cullipher

James Milton “Jack” Cullipher, 78, of Doulton Way, Columbia, South Carolina, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2018, in Carmel Manor, Fort Thomas, Kentucky.

Mr. Cullipher was born in Bertie County, North Carolina on March 27, 1940 and was the son of Milton Vance and Alice Riddick Cullipher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Merlin Vance Cullipher. He was a 1958 graduate of Colerain High School in Bertie County and later graduated from North Carolina State University. After spending several years working for various agrichemical companies, Jack became an Agricultural Extension Agent in Bladen County, NC specializing in peanuts. In 1972, he joined the DuPont Agricultural Chemical Division which took his family to Greenville, NC, followed by Valdosta, Georgia, Collierville, Tennessee, Apex, NC and finally Columbia, SC. New friends were made in each community, many of which remain close to Jack and his family. After 26 years, Mr. Cullipher retired from DuPont and became the Executive Secretary for the South Carolina Fertilizer and Agrichemical Association for several years. Throughout his life, no matter where he lived, Jack was an active member in the life of his church, serving as a Sunday School teacher, lay leader, trustee, President of the Methodist Men, and appointed to various church councils, all the while remaining faithful to his home church of Riverside Baptist. “Smilin’Jack,” as many know him, will always be remembered for his cheerful personality, love of fishing, western shows, old fashioned candy, and above all else, love for his family.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Thomas Cullipher, with whom he would have celebrated 58 years of marriage on December 30th, and their children, Mary (Mark) Daniels of Edenton, NC; Jimmy (Dreama) Cullipher of Creedmoor, NC; Martha (Don) Kirby of Union, KY; and Elizabeth (J.B.) Pollard of Falmouth, KY; and nine grandchildren, Ginny (Ricky) Toppin; Sarah Daniels; Luke and Kara Cullipher; Sam, Jack and Beth Kirby; and Keeley and Kade Pollard. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Janet McClure, and nephew, Brad (Jennene) Stanley and their son Curtis of Norman, Oklahoma; and many beloved family and friends.
