   Jack A. Dickerson, 85, of Hertford, NC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, in his home.

   Born in Detroit, Michigan on June 5, 1933, he was the son of the late Dorris and Alice Dickerson. In 1951, Jack graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit and then followed his childhood love of electronics and attended the Electronics Institute of Technology, also in Detroit, having graduated in 1953.  Jack then served in the Armed Forces for two years before re-enrolling at the Electronics Institute, earning a specialized degree in electronics and television. He was soon hired in 1956 by IBM in Kingston, NY as an electrical engineer. In 1990 he retired from IBM, Research Triangle Park (RTP), NC after a career of 34 years. During his tenure at IBM, Jack was granted numerous patents, and was named “RTP Inventor of the Year” in 1985. He loved spending time with his family and traveling with his wife. A kind, generous, and skillful handyman, he helped many neighbors and family members along the way. He attended Hertford United Methodist Church.

   Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Maxine Sage Dickerson; his son, Scott H. Dickerson and wife, Mary, of Chapel Hill; daughters, Susan D. Pandich of New London and Nancy D. Welles and husband, Paul, of Oriental; a sister, Judy A. Lewis of Richmond, VA; and a sister-in-law, Carol A. Faust of Charlottesville, VA.  Jack was the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren, Michael, Taylor, Caroline, Jackie, Laura, Julie, and Lisa, a great grandson, Beckett; an uncle to several nieces and nephews; and a beloved friend to many.

   A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, December 8, at 2:00 p.m. in Herford United Methodist Church, and will be conducted by the Rev. Bryan Sexton, Jr. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.

   The family wishes to thank his entire Hospice Care Team for all of their skillful and compassionate care over the past six months.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amedisys Hospice Care, 201 E. Water Street, Plymouth, NC 27962 or to Hertford United Methodist Church, 200 Dobbs Street, Hertford, NC 27944.
