Horace Eugene Finley

   Horace Eugene Finley, 89, of 206 Reedy Creek Drive, Elizabeth City, NC, died Saturday, April 17, 2021 in his home with his children at his side.

   Mr. Finley was born in Madison County, OH on January 12, 1932, and was the son of the late Faye Wood Finley and Norma Tarpening Finley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Roy Ann Leary Finley; sons, Roy and Stephen Finley; sisters, Martha Leimer, Dorothy Heron, and Patty Cooper; and by a brother, Kenneth Finley.

   A Korean War veteran, he retired as a Master Chief Avionics Technician from the US Navy with a total of 20 years of service. Following his military career, he taught Shop and Drafting at Currituck High School and retired after 20 years of employment. He was also a licensed electrical contractor.

   A loving husband, father, and grandfather, surviving are his two daughters, Jeanie Biggs (husband, Greg) of Hertford and Karen Godfrey (husband, Calvin Vance); a son, Tommy Finley (wife, Lisa), all of Elizabeth City; 10 grandchildren, Charlie, Norman, Jennifer, Ann, Jason, Sara, Christina, Heather, Kelsey, and Emma, and 10 great-grandchildren.

   A graveside service with military honors will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Elizabeth City, and will be conducted by Pastor Phil Dowdy. No formal visitation is planned, however friends may visit with the family at the gravesite immediately following the service on Tuesday.

   The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to his caregiver, Donna Lord, for the love and care provided to Mr. Finley since he returned back to his home this past August.
