Henry Carlton “Honey” Elliott, Sr., 86, Hertford, NC, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2024 in his daughter’s home in Hertford.
Mr. Elliott was born in Perquimans County on March 24, 1938, and was the son of the late Matthew Henry Elliott and Katherine Whitehurst Charles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Fay Rogerson Elliott.
A heavy equipment operator having worked in land development and farming for many years, he was a member of Woodville Baptist Church, and a charter and “forever member” of the Inter-County Ruritan Club where he had served as a Past President and as both Albemarle District Lieutenant Governor and Governor. He was known for cooking the hush puppies and fish at many of the Ruritan Fish Fries in both North Carolina and Virginia. Other enjoyments included his love of raising black berries and persimmons and making his delicious ice cream.
Surviving are his two sons, Henry Carlton Elliott, Jr. (wife, Kris) of Midway, GA and Dennis Matthew Elliott (wife, Shannon) of Belville; a daughter, Dawn Elliott Rountree (husband, Eugene, Jr.) of Hertford; two brothers, Henry Elliott (wife, Sandra) of Hertford and William Owens (wife, Laura) of Lake Lure; two sisters, Marian Mathews of Chesapeake, VA and Alice Faye Tillett (husband, Allen) of Hope Mills; eight grandchildren, Kelly Annis (husband, Tony), Chrissa Bogush, Kristina Guillory, Travis Rountree (wife, Juliea), Cameron Elliott (wife, Samantha), Bailey Hall (husband, Adam), Eric Rountree (wife, Kelley), and Tyler Rountree (wife, Allie); 13 great-grandchildren, Billy, Michael, Levi, June, Elliott, Amelia, Trevor, Taylor, Logan, Neil, Dietrich, Winton, and Cornelia; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Woodville Baptist Church, 151 Woodville Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by his pastor, the Rev. Steve Feehan. Friends may visit with the family on the church grounds immediately following the service on Sunday and other times at Dawn and Eugene’s home, 414 Woodville Road, Hertford.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Woodville Baptist Church, in care of the treasurer, Dale Holland, 134 Dances Bay Road, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
