Helene Whedbee Nixon

   Helene Whedbee Nixon, 102, of 321 North Front Street, Hertford, NC, died Sunday, December 23, 2018.

   Born in Hertford on October 20, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Jones, Jr. and Penelope Blount Newby Nixon. Retired from the Perquimans County ASCS of the US Department of Agriculture in 1973, she was a member of Hertford United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Penelope Nixon; brothers, Herbert Newby Nixon, Sr. (Thelma), Francis Blount Nixon (Madeleine), Thomas J. Nixon, IV (Madeline), and Hollowell Cox Nixon (Kay); nieces, Katherine "Kacky" Nixon Ertl and Sally Nixon Haines; and nephews, Herbert Newby Nixon, Jr. and Don Burns.

   Surviving are her five nieces, Becky Nixon Winslow and husband, Preston, of Wilmington, Nita Nixon Burns of Seymour, TN, Susan Nixon Van Name and husband, Bill, of Boones Mill, VA, Maurine Carter and husband, Tom, of Fort Mill, SC, and Sharon Nixon Wolfson and husband, Michael, of Newton, MA, and two nephews, Tommy Nixon and wife, Debbie, of Durham, and Billy Nixon and wife, Margie, of Hertford.

   A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, March 23, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church Cemetery.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hertford United Methodist Church, 200 Dobbs Street, Hertford, NC 27944.
