Hazel Weaver Ballard

   Hazel Weaver Ballard, 91, of Hertford, NC, died Wednesday, May 5, 2021 in Vidant Chowan Hospital, Edenton.

   Mrs. Ballard was born in Wayne County on November 21, 1929, and was the daughter of the late Gertha and Clara Denning Weaver. A graduate of East Carolina Teacher's College, now East Carolina University, she was a retired teacher having taught in North Carolina Public Schools and then abroad in both Japan and Germany through the US Department of Defense.  Following her time overseas, she returned to the United States and taught in Virginia Public Schools and had served as president of her teacher's sorority. She was a Christian by faith.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh A. Ballard; brothers, Glenn (wife, Hilda), Ralph (wife, Dorothy), and James Weaver; and sisters-in-law, Anita, Ellie, and Joyce Weaver.

   Surviving are her daughter, Marci B. Camic (husband, Jim); a sister, Doris Weaver; five brothers, Roy, Charles (wife, Annette), Donald, Russell, and Carl Weaver (wife, Faye); a sister-in-law, Beverly Weaver; granddaughter, Morgan Albrecht (husband, John); and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

   A graveside service will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

   The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to her caregivers who became family, Betty Painter, Rhonda Smith, and Dianne Ross, for all the love, care, and compassion provided to Mrs. Ballard over the past 13 years.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to a church or charity of one's choice.
